Jesus Christ Holy Mandyl According to tradition, "Saint Mandelion" or "Agion Mandelion" was the first printed on a cloth image of Christ to be sent when he was on earth to Agarus V, Prince of Osroene, the kingdom of Edessa. The Outcast though he had not seen Christ, he had believed in him as the Son of God. When struck by leprosy he asked Jesus by letter to visit him in his city and heal him. The letter was sent along with his personal painter, Ananias. When Ananias reached the point where Christ was teaching he was unable to approach him, so he unsuccessfully tried to paint him from afar. When Christ’s preaching was finished, Ananias approached him with the letter of Agarus. Jesus then asked for water and a cloth and imprinted his face on it. He sent it to the Outer who touched it on him and healed. The sail was placed as an image by Agarus V at the entrance of the city.
