Holy Life Saint Zoe, with her husband Espero and their two children, Kyriakos and Theodoulos, lived as slaves in the Roman Catallus, during the years of the emperor Hadrian, in the 2nd AD. h. They were forbidden to pray and praise their God, which Saint Zoe did secretly, trying to introduce other slaves to the Christian faith. When they were forced to disbelieve they preferred martyrdom, she and all her family. Although they were burned alive, their bones remained intact, a sign of the incorruption and heavenly glory bestowed upon them by the Lord. Emperor Justinian erected a temple in memory of Saint Zoe, which was destroyed and rebuilt from its foundations, in 886 AD, by Basil I.
