Saint Efstratios In the most cruel and merciless era for faithful Christians, many were martyred and did not renounce their faith and their love for God. At the time of Diocletian's persecutions (303-311 AD), many faithful Christians who had a higher position in the army of the Roman Empire declared their faith and proceeded to die after unspeakable tortures. Among them was Eustratius, a senior officer, who was captured, tortured and sent to the prefect Agricola, a brutal and violent man who delighted in torturing Christians. Eustratios was burned in the fire, after first being brutally tortured. His Kara is in the Monastery of the Great Lavra of Mount Athos. One of his hands can be found in the Koutloumousiou Monastery of Mount Athos.
