Saint Gregory Saint Gregory the Theologian was born into a family with a Christian faith based on the power of knowledge. His father was the bishop of Nazianzus Grigorios and his siblings Caesarios and Gorgonia who are commemorated by the Orthodox Church on March 9 and February 23 respectively. Grigorios studied for 13 years in Palestine, Alexandria and Athens. He was connected by deep friendship with Basil and spent with him the training in the spiritual life in Pontus. At the age of 43, he returned to "active" action as a bishop in the region of Sasimo. He fought with knowledge and powerful rhetoric against the Arians who had besieged Constantinople. From the church of Saint Anastasia and at the risk of his life, he managed to win against Arianism and become Patriarch of Constantinople. However, he failed to defeat a portion of bishops who opposed him for their own, nefarious purposes. He returned to his birthplace Arianzo and fell asleep in 390 AD.
