Saint John the Russian Born in a village in Little Russia in 1690 AD, of virtuous parents, Saint John enlisted at legal age during the reign of Peter the Great. He took part in the war against the Turks and was captured by Tatars, who sold him to an Ottoman officer in Caesarea, Cappadocia. John did not convert like many of his fellow captives. Many miracles are reported after his death. An attempt to burn the holy relic by Osman Pasha is characteristically mentioned, which not only did not burn despite the fact that they threw it into the fire, but the infidels themselves saw it bullying them and driving them out of the church premises. His holy relic was transferred from 1924 to Evia. His memory is celebrated on May 27.
