Saint Joseph Joseph was a suitor, that is, a suitor and not a husband, for the Virgin Mary and the Divine Child, after the request of the Angel. After Herod's death, Joseph returned his family safely to Nazareth, and since Jesus went to the Temple at the age of 12, Joseph is no longer mentioned in the scriptures, so we assume he must have passed away around that time.
