Saint Luke Syrian by origin with Greek nationality, Saint Luke, also known as Luke the Evangelist, was a doctor by profession and an excellent painter. The Apostle Paul taught him the Christian faith and showed him the way of the Christian life and since then, he devoted himself completely to the spread of Christianity by preaching the Gospel. He toured many places, in Italy, France, Greece and elsewhere until his old age teaching, as the Apostle Paul did for him. He wrote the third Gospel of the New Testament and the Acts of the Apostles. He left the earthly life at the age of 80, according to some peacefully, according to others with a martyr's death, around 84 AD. His remains were transferred to Constantinople, in the church of the Holy Apostles. His memory is celebrated on October 18.
