Saint Maximus Maximus the Confessor lived as a prominent citizen, with high offices in Constantinople from 580 to 662 m.E.. He joined the imperial administration from a young age, became a monk in the Monastery of Chrysoupolis, returned to Constantinople to avoid the Persians and from there he went to North Africa where he started his action against Monotheletism and Monophysitism. In 646 he organized a church council in Rome against Monotheletism, where the doctrine was condemned, which turned against Emperor Constantine II. He was tried in Istanbul and sentenced to exile in the Laziki of Pontus. Soon after, he died. His memory is commemorated by the Orthodox, Catholic, Lutheran, and Anglican Church.
