Saint Porphyria Porphyrios was born into a very poor family, on February 7, 1906, in Evia. Father emigrated to America and he, from the age of 7, left his place to work in Chalkida and then Piraeus. Although he only attended the first class of the elementary school, he had read about the life of St. John the Kalybite, whose life he wanted to imitate. At 12 years of age he went to Mount Athos in the submission of two Elders, Panteleimon and Johnnicus. At 14 he became a monk and soon thereafter God gave him the divisive. In 26 years he was ordained a priest in Saint Charalambos Kymis, who also gave him the name Porphyrias. He lived the life of the virtuous and deeply philosophical and left the earthly in 1991 on Mount Athos, in his beloved Caucasians, according to his will.
