Handmade image, crafted on canvas on wood using the method of Byzantine iconography, with a gold background. Saint Spyridon Protector of the poor, father of orphans, teacher of sinners. Saint Spyridon was born in 270 AD in Cyprus to a wealthy family of shepherds, a profession he followed despite his education. Simple, good, full of love for his neighbor, he married and had a daughter, Irene. When his wife died he devoted himself to teaching the word of God. He was ordained a Priest and from this position, with his virtue and faith, he performed many miracles. At the First Ecumenical Council in Nicaea, Bithynia, he zealously defended the Orthodox Faith. He fell asleep on December 12, 350 AD. His remains were brought from Cyprus in 648 AD. in Constantinople and later by his descendants in Corfu, where his procession is litanic four times a year.
