One of the most popular icons of the Virgin Mary, Brefokratusa is an inspiration and creation of the painter of the Renaissance and an important hagiographer from Rethymno, Emmanuel Janes, expresser of the Cretan School. The image was created in 1651 and is kept in the Holy Monastery of Ypapanti of Theotokos, Corfu.
