Virgin Mary Zoodochos Source According to Christian tradition, the sacred sanctuary bearing the name Zoodochus Source of Balukli or Virgin Mary Balukliotissa, was revealed through two different versions. From Emperor Leo the Great, where when as a simple soldier he met at the Golden Gate of Constantinople a blind man and asked him for water, he heard a voice that pointed to the point of the source. The blind man brought the muddy water into his eyes and healed. Years later as emperor, he heard the same voice indicating to him to build a church next to the source, as he did, dedicated it to Theotokos and gave it the name Zoodochos Source. During the second version the church built it in the early 6th century, Justinian at the point he hunted, with very green and water. There, as in vision, he saw a small chapel, a priest and multitude of people in front of a source and built with materials left over from Saint Sophia, a monastery. In the 14th century, Nikiforos Kallistos lists a list of 64 miracles that the source has carried out. There are the tombs of the Ecumenical Patriarchs, while the sanctuary is considered to this day, sanctified and the Source spread throughout the Orthodox world.
