Apostle Marcos Mark, born John, grew up with Christian faith and principles because of his mother Mary, a Christian from Jerusalem. He was the nephew of Barnabas (one of the early Christians who along with the twelve apostles helped spread Christianity) and Paul called him his son. He accompanied Paul and Barnabas on various missionary trips. He was found with Paul in Rome during his first imprisonment, while he was with Peter in Rome when he wrote his first letter. He developed missionary activity in Egypt, where he founded the Alexandria congregation, which he shepherded from 43 C.E. until his martyrdom in 68 C.E. His remains are kept in the Basilica of St. Mark.
