Archangel Gabriel The Holy Megist Monastery of Vatopedi is the largest building complex of Mount Athos, which began to be built in the 10th century. The architecture of the Monastery, its portable icons and frescoes adorning all parts of the main temple, are classified two of them in the late period and the third in the first period of the paleologists. The frescoes of the exonarthex of the Palaiologists' era consist of scenes of Christ's life and are supplemented by figures of whole-body prophets, saints and angels. A characteristic of the Catholic monastery is the fragment (sustained part) of mural, dating around 1260 m.E., with the Virgin Mary Glycophilousa and standing between the archangels Michael and Gabriel. The image is a detail – close from the head of Archangel Gabriel, from a full body image found in a fresco of the Holy Megist Monastery of Vatopedi.
