Archangel Gabriel The Holy Megist Monastery of Vatopedi is the largest building complex of Mount Athos, which began to be built in the 10th century. Its portable images and frescoes adorning all parts of the main temple, are classified in the late-commence period and in the first period of paleologists. The frescoes of the exonarthex of the Palaeologists' era depict mainly scenes of Christ's life and are supplemented by figures of whole-body prophets, saints and angels. A characteristic of the Catholic monastery is the fragment (sustained part) of mural, dating around 1260 m.E., with the Virgin Mary Glycophilousa and standing between the archangels Michael and Gabriel.
