Lapis lazuli pendant with meander wreath Greek Key decoration on solid sterling silver. An ancient Greek Key museum replica lapis necklace.A pendant designed by Rafael Santarosa based on the ancient symbol of eternity, the Greek key meander. In the middle of a sterling silver wreath of see thru greek key nest a 8mm natural lapis lazuli cabochon gem in a filigree decorated bezel sterling silver. The whole shape of meander follows the bezel. A meander or Meandros (Greek: Μαίανδρος) is a decorative border constructed from a continuous line, shaped into a repeated motif. Such a design is also called the Greek fret or Greek key design, although these are modern designations. On the one hand, the name "meander" recalls the twisting and turning path of the Maeander River in Asia Minor, and on the other hand, as Karl Kerenyi pointed out, "the meander is the figure of a labyrinth in linear form". Among some Italians, these patterns are known as Greek Lines. Usually the term is used for motifs with straight lines and right angles; the many versions with rounded shapes are called running scrolls. Meanders are common decorative elements in Greek and Roman art. In ancient Greece they appear in many architectural friezes, and in bands on the pottery of ancient Greece from the Geometric Period onwards. The design is common to the present-day in classicizing architecture. The meander is a fundamental design motif in regions far from a Hellenic orbit: labyrinthine meanders ("thunder" pattern) appear in bands and as infill on Shang bronzes, and many traditional buildings in and around China still bear geometric designs almost identical to meanders. They were among the most important symbols in ancient Greece; and perhaps symbolized infinity and unity; many ancient Greek temples incorporated the sign of the meander. Greek vases, especially during their Geometric Period, were probably the main reason for the widespread use of meanders; alternatively, very ocean-like patterns of waves also appeared in the same format as meanders, which can also be thought of as the guilloche pattern. The shield of Philip II of Macedon, conserved in the museum of Vergina, is decorated with multiple symbols of the meander. Meanders are also prevalent on the pavement mosaics found in Roman villas throughout the Roman empire. A good example is at the Chedworth Roman Villa in England, leading many[who?] historians to believe that the pattern was part of the original inspiration for the Latin "G" character. Rafael Santarosa Fine Jewelry
My name is Athanasios, and I live in Greece, where I design and handcraft jewelry inspired by Ancient and Byzantine Greek traditions. My workshop is established on the holy mountain Parnassus, near Delphi, the ancient secret holy city, considered the center of the earth by the ancient Greeks. I chose "Rafael Santarosa" as the brand name for my jewels, and soon, my friends and customers started calling me Rafael Santarosa. I love the sound of this name and its secret meaning: Rafael is the name of the archangel of healing, and Santa Rosa symbolizes the holy feminine, representing the Greek goddess Aphrodite. It is a hymn to the evolution of female purity of soul, innocence, and passion, reminding us of the fertility, beauty, and abundance that women embody. There is also a second secret in the "Santarosa" name. Santore Santarosa was a hero for the Greek people, an Italian nobleman and minister who gave all his wealth and ultimately his life in the Greek War of Independence. Since 1988, as Rafael Santarosa, I have been crafting unique handmade jewelry. My fine jewelry masterpieces are made from solid sterling silver, sterling silver gold-filled, or solid gold. My collection includes floral pendants and rings, religious crosses and fashion crosses, ancient Greece-inspired necklaces, museum replicas, precious gems on earrings, and semi-precious stones on bracelets. You will also find Hellenic heritage symbols on fine rings, colorful enamels on fine silver, and ancient Greek coin replica charms and pendants. After a long journey in archaeological excavations, metal restoration in applied archaeology, and jewelry design, I am now delighted to connect with you personally on EmenCraft. You can now purchase your piece of fine jewelry, fashion jewelry, and handmade jewelry, crafted with the knowledge and experience acquired from my relationship with the beauty, harmony, and perfection of Ancient Greek art.
