Our Lady Driver. The icon of the Virgin Mary Guide refers to the first icons of the Virgin Mary in Orthodox history, which were painted by Evangelist Luke with the "blessing" of the Virgin Mary. (1545/6) by Theophanes the Cretan, one of the most important illustrators of the Cretan School. In this picture the iconographer Theophanis had emphasized the photo shadowing of the faces as well as the tumors of the bodies, characteristic of the intense shadow surrounding the body of Christ on the side that comes into with the body of the Virgin Mary, emphasising their autonomy. The rendering of the body volume and the depiction of the faces to look at the viewer, reflect the identity of Theophanes.
