Our Lady of Lourdes In Lourdes, in a town in southwestern France, on 11 February 1858, a fourteen-year-old farmer, Vernaditi Subiru, first saw a "fine Lady" in a cave, just outside the small suburb of Massabiel. The "lady" was dressed in white, with white veil, blue belt and a yellow rose on each leg. The "good lady" appeared to the young girl 18 times by July 16 of that same year. In the sixteenth appearance, on 25 March, the "lady" said in the local Gasconian dialect, in the only language that Vernadeti understood "I am the immaculately arrested". The girl ran to say the phrase to the vicar of the Abba Peiramal area, who had no doubt that the "lady" was the Virgin. The subject was raised in the Pope's judgment, where after 4 years, on 18 January 1862, he recognized the Virgin Mary's appearances as authentic in the name of the Church. The icon of the Virgin Mary, as Vernadeti saw it, dressed in white with a blue belt in the middle, is the most established in the iconography of the Catholic Church, while the Virgin Mary of Lourdes is the nickname with which Mother Christ is most honoured.
