Saint Anthony Born in Egypt of wealthy parents, Saint Anthony renounced his wealth and abandoned the worldly, leaving for the desert. It became the model of ascetic life and a symbol for ascetics. He surrendered his soul to God at the age of 105. The original icon, painted by Michael Damascene, is in the Byzantine and Christian Museum of Athens.
