Saint Catherine is depicted sitting on a throne, in princely clothes, surrounded by her books - an indication of wisdom and education. She holds a palm branch (symbol of the martyr) and the cross with the crucified, while she sits next to the great wheel of martyrdom. The original is exhibited in the Byzantine Museum of Athens.
