About this item
Explore Saint Cyprian and Saint Justina - Silver icon on wood, locally gilded - Mount Athos from Christianity Art. Listed under Wall reliefs. Materials: Silver, Gold, Wood. Image crafted on canvas on wood, with silver coating and local gilding. The figure comes with a free stand. Saint Kyprianos and Saint Iustina Saint Cyprian lived in the years of the emperor Decius (249 -251 AD), the so-called "cruel tyrant" by Christians, because of the severe persecutions he announced by decree in 250 AD. Cyprian was a famous magician, who was initiated into occult practices. However, the faith of a Christian virgin, Justa, who did not bend to his spells, made him realize that all the tricks of the world were not enough to bend someone if he has Christ as his strength. This admission led him not only to burn his books but also to be baptized a Christian himself. His knowledge and the integrity of his character led him to high priestly ranks up to the position of Bishop of Carthage. Next to him, he ordained Justa, who was renamed Iustina, as a deaconess. However, according to the decree of Decius, he was exiled to Antioch, imprisoned and finally beheaded along with Justina. The remains of both are in Rome.
