Saint George George is one of the most popular saints of Christianity, nicknamed Great Martyr and Trophy Bearer, by Christian parents. He followed a military career in the Roman army. By decree of the emperor Diocletian, he was promoted to commander and colonel in the body of the imperial guard. When in 303 AD began a great wave of persecution against Christians, George, who did not renounce his faith, was subjected to horrific torture until his death on April 23, 303 AD. His remains were taken and buried in Lydda, in the Holy Land, on the spot where Constantine the Great later built a temple.
