Image crafted on canvas on wood, framed in an oval indelible metal frame. The figure comes with a free stand. Saint Gerasimos Saint Gerasimos was born as George in Trikala, Corinth in 1506 from an aristocratic family of Byzantium, the famous family of the Notarades. He was brought up and educated aristocratically. In his 20s he went to Zakynthos, as a center of letters of the time, however his orthodox faith led him to the spiritual religious centers of his time, Constantinople, the Ecumenical Patriarchate and Mount Athos, where he became a monk. He practiced in the cell of Saint Basil and left there for a long journey to the Holy Land. He ends up in Jerusalem where he is ordained a deacon and elder with the name Gerasimos. He returns to Zakynthos after wandering for 20 years and becomes an ascetic. The pressure of the Venetian rule for conversion in the bosom of Catholicism, leads him to Kefalonia. There he practiced in a cave for 6 years and built a monastery, called New Jerusalem. His fame spread throughout Christendom. He fell asleep on August 15, in the Dormition of the Virgin and is celebrated one day later, on August 16.
