Saint John the Forerunner One of the "great" saints of our Church, Saint John the Baptist, lived an ascetic life in the Judean desert until his thirties. He lived on locusts and honey, sunburnt, serious, dignified, dynamic, with an unbecoming and distinct physiognomy. He prepared the coming of Jesus through his teaching which is summed up in the phrase "Repent; reach for the kingdom of heaven". His feast was established in the 5th century. A.D. , for the saint who, according to the word of the Lord, "no man stood greater than him".
