About this item
Discover Saint Joseph - Silver icon on wood, locally gilded - Mount Athos, offered by Christianity Art. Find it in Wall reliefs. Materials: Silver, Gold, Wood. Image crafted on canvas on wood, with silver coating and local gilding. The figure comes with a free stand. Saint Joseph Joseph was a suitor, that is, a suitor and not a husband, for the Virgin Mary and the Divine Child, after the request of the Angel. Saint Joseph the Mnestor was a descendant of David and came from Bethlehem. He lived in Nazareth, he was a carpenter and when the Virgin Mary was about 13 years old, he was an old man and a widower with seven children. Saint Zacharias, high priest of the temple and patron of the Virgin Mary, asked Joseph to protect her when she was orphaned by her parents. When Mary became pregnant at age 15, Joseph saw the Angel in his dream who revealed to him Mary's role and the supernatural conception. The betrothal was necessary to protect both the Virgin and the Divine Infant. According to the scriptures, Joseph took Mary when she was about to give birth and they went to Bethlehem to take a census of the population in his place of origin. There Mary gave birth to Jesus. After Herod's death, Joseph returned his family safely to Nazareth, and since Jesus went to the Temple at the age of 12, Joseph is no longer mentioned in the scriptures, so we assume he must have passed away around that time.
