About this item
Christianity Art presents Virgin Mary Babykrateusa - Old wooden image with silver halo locally gilded - Mount Athos. Category: Paintings. Materials: Silver, Gold, Wood. An aged image crafted on canvas on carefully processed wood, exhaling a sense of tradition and spirituality. The image is framed by a wooden frame decorated with gold sheet, which has undergone artificial aging, giving an authentic and timeless aesthetic. The halo of the form is made of silver, bifurcated with local gold plated gold, highlighting the high skill and detailed design. The image is decorated with colorful stones. The image is accompanied by a free support base, offering ease of installation and stability. A work of art that combines tradition with quality, ideal for every space and as a gift with spiritual value. Holy Mother of God. Our Lady Brefokratusa pretends to hold in her arms from the right hand side the little Christ and to lean her head slightly towards him, in a sign of protection and tenderness. The Virgin shakes her Son with her two hands and looks sweetly, both she and little Jesus, straight ahead. The garments, both the tunic and the inner garments have the same harmonic shades, in red and blue. This image is a variation of Glycophilousa, with particularly pictorial features that place it chronicly in the 15th century and technically, in the methods of early Cretan workshops. However, this image, with the noble form of the Virgin Mary and the "brown" form of Jesus, with the rounded features, the plump hands and the full shoulders and the two little angels on the left and right, is a copy of the style of Loverdos and belongs to the collection of his works on the subject of the Virgin Mary of Christ. The image is painted by Cretan painter Nikolaos Tzafouris, an excellent expressionist of the school of Crete. The original of the icon with St. Francis at the far left is located in the Byzantine and Christian Museum, while the same image of the painter without St. Francis is located in the British Museum. Both date to the second half of the 15th century.
