Virgin Mary Glycosherousa One of the most intimate depictions of the Virgin Mary. Cretan hagiographers of the 15th and 16th used to reproduce the image with a more popular version that of Emmanuel Lombardus – a great painter of post-Byzantine icons – who lived in the second half of the 16th century. The original is exhibited at the Benaki Museum.
