Our Lady Driver. The icon of the Virgin Mary Guide refers to the first icons of the Virgin Mary in Orthodox history, which were painted by Evangelist Luke with the "blessing" of the Virgin Mary. The Christian tradition states that the Holy Gospel writer Luke painted the Virgin Mary on pieces of wood that gave him an angel of the Lord. In the first piece of wood the Evangelist Luke created the Virgin without Jesus, while in the second, at the urging of the Virgin Mary, the Apostle Luke added the form of Jesus, which the Virgin blessed with great joy. The Virgin Mary Dipotria located on the iconostasis of the Catholic Monastery of Stavronikita on Mount Athos is a portable icon, hagiographed in the 16th century. (1545/6) by Theophanes the Cretan, one of the most important illustrators of the Cretan School. In this picture the iconographer Theophanis had emphasized the photo shadowing of the faces as well as the tumors of the bodies, characteristic of the intense shadow surrounding the body of Christ on the side that comes into with the body of the Virgin Mary, emphasising their autonomy. The rendering of the body volume and the depiction of the faces to look at the viewer, reflect the identity of Theophanes.
