Virgin Mary Triherousa Family heirloom of St. John the Damascus – councillor of Syrian Caliph Walid (705 AD). – 715 AD), the icon of Virgin Mary Triherousa was kept in the chapel of his house. During the period of Iconomachia, the Emperor of Constantinople Leo III, Isaurus, the enemy of the images, slandered St John in Walid, thus ordering him to cut off his hand, as he did. St. John in his sleep saw the Virgin who kept in an image in his house, telling him that his hand was well and how he can continue his work in favor of Orthodoxy. St. John when he woke up found that his hand had been restored and in return, he put a silver image of his hand under the left part of the Virgin Mary's Picture. From this fact the image was named Triherousa, to this day patron of the Serbian Orthodox people.
